Welcome to Kinly! This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our family organization app.
1. Data We Collect
To provide a seamless experience for your family, Kinly collects the following data:
- Account Information: Your email address used for registration and login.
- Family Profiles: Names, roles, and ages of family members (including children, if provided by you).
- User Content: Events, tasks, lists, chat messages, budget entries, photos, and documents. All your content is securely stored in private cloud storage and only accessible to your family group.
- Location Data: Precise location data (GPS) while you use the Family Map and share your location. If you grant background ("Always") location permission, your location can also be collected while the app is closed, so your family can see when you arrive somewhere; iOS shows a location indicator and Android shows a persistent notification while this is on. Location is used solely to share your position with your family members and trigger place alerts (e.g., "Arrived at School"). You can turn sharing off at any time, and collection stops when you do.
- Device Information: Your Expo push notification token, stored with your account so we can send you notifications about your family's activity, and your notification preferences.
- Analytics Data: Usage data collected via Mixpanel (EU data residency) and Microsoft Clarity to help us improve the app. Mixpanel receives a fixed list of events (for example screens opened, setup steps, paywall views and purchase steps) tagged with a random identifier that is not your Kinly account ID; we never send names, emails or the text you type. Microsoft Clarity records how screens are used (session replays and heatmaps).
- Advertising Measurement: Kinly includes the Meta (Facebook) SDK, which sends a small number of app events to Meta so we can measure how well our advertising works: that the app was opened, that an account was created, that a trial started, and that a subscription started (with the plan tier only). It is switched on only if you have not turned off analytics, and Meta can use your device's advertising identifier only if you allow tracking in the iOS App Tracking Transparency prompt.
- Purchase History: Subscription data processed via the Apple App Store and Adapty. Your Kinly account ID is shared with Adapty so that your subscription can be tied to your account. We do not collect or store raw payment details (like credit card numbers).
2. How We Use Your Data
Your data is used exclusively to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Kinly app features.
- Sync data across your family's devices in real-time.
- Process your Kinly Family Pro subscription.
- Send you notifications and place alerts that you have allowed.
- Measure how the app and our advertising perform (only if analytics is on).
- Communicate with you regarding app updates or support.
3. Who Processes Your Data
We do not sell your data. To run Kinly we rely on the following service providers, who process data on our behalf:
- Supabase: Hosting, database, file storage, sign-in and real-time sync, on servers in the European Union (Ireland). Your account, family content, location and push token are stored here.
- Expo, Apple and Google (push notifications): When we notify you, we send the notification text together with your push token through the Expo push service, which delivers it via Apple Push Notification service or Google Firebase Cloud Messaging. The text can include an event title or the start of a chat message.
- Adapty and the Apple App Store: Subscription purchases and status. Adapty also tells our servers when your subscription changes.
- Mixpanel (EU): Product analytics, as described above.
- Microsoft Clarity: Screen-usage analytics, as described above.
- Meta Platforms: Advertising measurement events, as described above.
4. Tracking and Your Choices
On iPhone, after you finish setting up, Kinly may show Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", advertiser tracking stays off. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
In the app, Settings → Privacy → Allow analytics turns off Mixpanel, Microsoft Clarity and Meta events together. Location, notifications and photo access are controlled by the permissions in your device settings, and you can turn off location sharing inside the Family Map.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your family's data only for as long as your account is active.
Complete Account Deletion: You have the right to completely delete your account and all associated data at any time directly within the app (Navigate to Family Hub → Settings → Delete Account). Upon deletion, all your family data, including photos, chats, and locations, will be permanently removed from our servers.
Anonymous analytics and advertising-measurement events that have already been sent to Mixpanel, Microsoft Clarity and Meta are kept by those providers under their own policies and are not linked to your Kinly account ID.
